Bookatable & DSTRKT Create Valentines ‘Ultimate Aphrodisiac Menu’

If you’re really stuck for last minute ideas on Valentines Day and fancy going for dinner with a bit of a twist, Bookatable have teamed up with DSTRKT in Piccadilly who have created the ‘Ultimate Aphrodisiac Menu’! They also did a little culinary compatibility experiment, matching three couples according to their food tastes to see if a love of the same sorts of food played a part in the romance.

Here is the video where you can see the couples and a snippet of their experiences:

The menu, created by DSTRKT’s head chef Georgi Yaneff, definitely looks interesting. With options like 35-day-aged Scotch Beef Tenderloin, Salmon and Passion Fruit Tartate, Quail’s Egg Yolk, Coriander, Blood Orange and Salmon Roe and Chocolate and Caviar mousse, it’s something a bit more special than your standard Pizza Express!

35-Day-Aged Scotch Beef Tenderloin Salmon & Passion Fruit Tartare Chocolate & CaviarBookatable also did some research on the whole idea of dinner dates, what puts people off and the most common anxieties. I think one of the most awkward ones is definitely on who pays. Matchmaker and dating expert Caroline Brealey, who worked with Bookatable on the research said that “Splitting the bill after dinner makes the date feel more like a catch up with friends than it does a romantic dinner for two. Don’t end up in the ‘friend zone’ before you’ve even got started! Why not take turns? The man can pick up the tab for dinner before you move onto another restaurant for dessert and cocktails on her, far more romantic than getting your calculator out to split the bill and you get to discover more restaurants, a win win situation”.

Table manners is also something that was questioned in the research poll. 25% said that they would care less about their own table manners if their date wasn’t attractive! But that might not work in their favour as 48% said that they wouldn’t go on a second date with a messy eater. Personally I think that good table manners are a must regardless of who you’re dining with but everyone to their own :) A few other interesting findings were that 52% said they would ditch their date if they were ugly or boring (ouch!) and 20 percent of the men polled said they would check where the nearest hotel is before going on a dinner date! (Sounds like this menu could be right up their street!)

Ultimately though, table manners and who pays the bill are going to be things that everyone has their own views and standards on and the test of finding a compatible parter is finding someone who shares the same ones as you.

This 4 and a half course menu probably isn’t for picky eaters but it looks and sounds delicious - and also a complete bargain at £49 a head! To find out more and book you can go to http://www.bookatable.co.uk/blog/aphrodisiac-menu.
